The movie "The Impossible" - "An account of a family caught, with tens of thousands of strangers, in the mayhem of one of the worst natural catastrophes of our time" the 2004 Tsunami - was filmed mainly in Khao Lak (at the Orchid Beach Resort), Phuket and Krabi in Thailand between September 2010 and February 2011. Although obviously bringing lots of memories to the Thai communities, it also brought some much needed economic benefits to those communities, albeit for only a short period. It also offered opportunities for visitors there at the time to take part as extras and many took that opportunity. My wife and I passed on our chance of stardom as we were doing our visa run to Myanmar at the time.
The film stars Naomi Watts and Ewan MacGregor and is intended to be a realistic, albeit harrowing portrayal of the effects of that horrendous disaster on the family and others.
